Hello, I’m Riza! I have recently finished my English Literature major in Universitas Gadjah Mada. Just shortly after graduation, I became a teaching assistant at one of the universities in Thailand for seven months. I taught English to mostly first-year students with low English proficiency there. I did not speak Thai at all, but I managed to teach them English. That was quite an accomplishment for me.
I also translate documents from Indonesian to English and vice versa. When I was a student I helped the English Department at UGM translate documents for their clients, most of which were academic journals in various fields. Sometimes I even proofread and edit documents.
I have been a private English tutor for almo st 4 years now. I have had Korean and Australian kids as my students. It sounds a bit funny to tutor English to its native speakers, doesn’t it? Although it was challenging at times, I really enjoyed teaching them.
My experiences as a student and a teacher taught me the principle “interested students learn”. When the students are interested, they will learn more quickly. They will also remember the things they learn in the long run. Therefore, I always try my best to make English interesting and fun for my students.
