Hi everybody. I am Johannes. I am an engineer by education. I earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering in the United States. Spent 7 years there to complete my study and working as an intern, and as teaching and research assistant. During my career working for international companies I traveled extensively. From Aceh to Papua in Indonesia and overseas in the US, UK, Australia, Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian countries. I was also assigned to work for several years in the US, UK and Singapore. I first taught English back in the early days of my career. It was to the local communities in remote villages during my field assignments. I developed my passion in teaching then. Throughout my working experience I was lucky to have always given the opportunity to teach not only English but also a variety of disciplines related to my roles in the company. From Engineering & Project Management to Human Resources and from Business Ethics to Communication & Relations. I started working as a professional English teacher after retirement 8 years ago. From then on I teach at universities, companies, institutes as well as privately. I teach professors, professionals and students/youth. After a month course, I managed to obtain CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Cambridge University, UK. In addition to English I also continue teaching and provide advice in other areas of business and management and do business writing, translation and editing works. My hobbies are traveling and photography. I love adventure and the outdoor.
The breadth of experience from the different roles, locations visited, and the wide range of people, culture and age I encounter as well as other interests enrich me as an English tutor beyond just the language.
Student Name: Josh Tunggal
Simulation Date: Feb 20, 2021
Notes
Josh has demonstrated interest in English. He could use English with a little push from people around him. His pronunciation was very clear for his age. He understood basic daily English vocabulary. However, it took him a while to recall a word. This can be solved by using flashcard to intrigue instant memory (word and picture). Josh could create very simple sentences (I like car. I like noodle) but he needs to be exposed more to various kinds of simple sentences. He tended to use single word rather than to form a sentence.
Student’s goal:
To use English in daily activity at home and school
Recommended plan:
– Sentence introduction
– Vocabulary and single pronunciation drilling (flashcard and games – Kahoot)
– Theme-based lesson plan starting from beginning (Alphabets, numbers, self-introduction, coolurs, etc)
– Go towards: at the end of the lesson, Josh will be able to (1) form basic sentences, (2) ask questions in English, (3) form simple descriptive text orally.
Note: He likes cars and basketball. Find games suitable for his age. He tended to look at mum for support, earn his trust to be okay learning without mum. However, it is okay to involve mum for practice at times.
